When Aaron contacted me to buy a voucher for a family photo shoot to give to Kate for Mother’s Day this year, I thought “what a thoughtful guy”! After what felt like the longest winter, Melbourne has finally started to give us some decent weather so we met up recently at Berwick Botanical Gardens for their outdoor family photos.
8 month old Ethan was a happy little guy, giving lots of cuddles and smiles and Scooter was the best behaved dog I have ever encountered! I think the photos reflect what a down to earth family you are x
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing your beautiful images printed and presented on beautiful quality products such as these. When I talk to my clients about the framed canvas, I usually at some point say “you cant buy this at Kmart”. And you know what, the two don’t even compare, they are worlds apart. Whether you come to me for Newborn photography, Family Photography or a Cake Smash, your photos deserve to be on display, not on a USB forgotten in a drawer somewhere.
Here is some footage of my amazing supplier making a framed canvas this week. As you can see, the materials and construction are premium and the result is just stunning. Yes it costs a bit more, but as we all know; you really do get what you pay for. Pay that little bit extra and get amazing products like this that come with an unconditional 75 year warranty! It just doesn’t get any better than this!
The summer school holidays is a perfect time to get some professional photos of your children, after all they will never be this age again.
My camera loved these two gorgeous girls Kiara and Isla and we had so much fun frolicking in the garden while the sun set.
When my daughter started her Prep year at Cranbourne East Primary School this year, I wasn’t sure about the chosen language taught being Auslan. Yes this is the sign language of the Australian deaf community, but I couldn’t help but wonder if French or Spanish might be a bit more exotic?? In the grand scheme of things, that really has no meaning. If our children know more than one way to communicate, well thats better than what was offered when I went to school in the 70s (give or take a few years ha ha!) My babe has really enjoyed learning the language and is constantly telling me about new words that she has memorised.
Today my heart is bursting with pride when we practiced her Christmas song for the concert tomorrow. And I hope that Laurette (her Auslan teacher) sees this too.
Family photography is about capturing all facets of our little people’s lives. Like everyone, I snap plenty on my iPhone too.

NB: please consider me to capture some professional photos of your family and turn something into a piece of art for the wall. After all, what do we really do with all these photos on our phone?
I spent some time with the Moody family on their farm in Upper Pakenham recently. Their expansive property was a wonderful backdrop for family photos. Even the animals joined in! Melanie Day is a Melbourne Family Photographer.
I met Melissa Rowe 2 years ago when my husband and I attended her Mindful Parenting course. Melissa is an extraordinary person and has been a wonderful source of guidance in our journey into parenthood.
I recently attended her Mama & Me camp in Mornington and had a glorious two days with my daughter. Being surrounded by a tribe of like-minded women was revitalising. The weekend was well planned out and we spent time doing activities that allowed us to enjoy our daughter’s company and not worry about a thing except being mum. My daughter Ella made new friends and it was delightful to see them skipping around the property together.
I also photographed the mothers & daughters in a natural setting at the camp. It was such a pretty place and I loved how they all stood in the same spot for their photos and wore the same flower crowns, yet the results were all so unique. These are some of the images that I captured, family photography is such a rewarding job.
I’m looking forward to returning to the camp next week to photograph more special moments between a group of Mamas and sons . There will be more camps later in the year which is giving so many little ones an opportunity to have a weekend connecting with their Mum.
The definition of mindful parenting may be different to different people, but to me its bringing mindful awareness to interactions with your children. Parenting with a non-judgemental, open awareness of the present moment. Being gentle but not a push-over. This all sounds “easier said than done” but with the Mindful Mamas groups and information, it becomes a lot clearer. Its also a wonderful opportunity to take time out from our fast paced lives, share our experiences and be reminded that we need to be kind to ourselves to be able to be the mamas we want to be.
