Mindful Mamas

I met Melissa Rowe 2 years ago when my husband and I attended her Mindful Parenting course. Melissa is an extraordinary person and has been a wonderful source of guidance in our journey into parenthood.

I recently attended her Mama & Me camp in Mornington and had a glorious two days with my daughter. Being surrounded by a tribe of like-minded women was revitalising. The weekend was well planned out and we spent time doing activities that allowed us to enjoy our daughter’s company and not worry about a thing except being mum.  My daughter Ella made new friends and it was delightful to see them skipping around the property together.

I also photographed the mothers & daughters in a natural setting at the camp. It was such a pretty place and I loved how they all stood in the same spot for their photos and wore the same flower crowns, yet the results were all so unique. These are some of the images that I captured, family photography is such a rewarding job.

I’m looking forward to returning to the camp next week to photograph more special moments between a group of Mamas and sons . There will be more camps later in the year which is giving so many little ones an opportunity to have a weekend connecting with their Mum.

The definition of mindful parenting may be different to different people, but to me its bringing mindful awareness to interactions with your children. Parenting with a non-judgemental, open awareness of the present moment. Being gentle but not a push-over. This all sounds “easier said than done” but with the Mindful Mamas groups and information, it becomes a lot clearer. Its also a wonderful opportunity to take time out from our fast paced lives, share our experiences and be reminded that we need to be kind to ourselves to be able to be the mamas we want to be.

When I purchased this prop, I envisaged that I would use it for a newborn boy because you know, blue is a traditional boys colour. However, when Georgie’s mum said she would like to incorporate it in her photoshoot I was delighted! How adorable does she look with a blue lace wrap and pretty headband?

I always offer very neutral coloured newborn shots and love to mix this up with different colours and textures like this and will always be guided by the client if they have preferences.

Wonderful Wedding

I was invited to be the wedding photographer for a Nigerian couple in November last year. This day was an absolute visual delight for my camera and I loved being so close to such an intimate occasion for this couple.
From the nerves to the moments of sheer joy, and also the cultural aspects that were included in the nuptials it was a remarkable experience. I hope to have more opportunities to photograph small weddings again in the future.

I’ve almost finished my Mother’s Day mini sessions and these complimentary prints are on their way to my lovely clients in time for Mother’s Day.
I’ve taken advantage of our late summer this year and photographed lots of families in a local Berwick park. I just love the magic hour before sunset when the light is soft and its not too late for the little ones.
Most of the time us mums are the ones taking the photos and aren’t in many with our kids and I’m passionate about offering an affordable option for mums (and dads!) to get into photos with their children and what better time to do it than in the lead up to Mother’s day.
Have photos taken with your children, its a wonderful keepsake to look back on later in life and you’ll never look this young and gorgeous again! I will definitely be doing these sessions again next year.
